The many ways not recycling your ink cartridges affects our planet

Infotone recycling benefits

We live in a time where we have more access to information than ever.

Everything and anything we could ever want to know is now at our fingertips with digital and mobile technology making us more connected than we’ve ever been.

Yet, it seems we’re still not getting the message about the damage we’re doing to our planet.

The true environmental impact of not recycling your printer cartridges

It’s a huge waste of natural resources

For every brand new cartridge that is manufactured, it causes an unnecessary drain on the planet’s natural resources.

Every single printer cartridge uses around a gallon of oil for its production.

Plastic is made from oil, and your cartridge is made from plastic. It doesn’t stop there. The copper and aluminium are mined and refined, and for every new cartridge, we’re using fresh materials where we could just as easily be recycling those we’ve used before.

It adds to pollution

It can take up to 1000 years to break down the plastics in your ink and toner cartridges. There is a massive amount of plastic being buried in landfill areas every year, around 70% of the 400 million cart

The ink left in your empties will drain out and seep into the land around it causing further pollution. And if your cartridges end up at an incinerator plant, then the burned plastic will add to smog levels and to increased air pollution.

It’s a big contributor to greenhouse gases

Dumping your cartridges in the waste bin instead of recycling is directly adding to the current global warming problem affecting our planet today.

A manufacturer using recycled components to construct their cartridges produces far fewer harmful greenhouse gases. Wherever the plastic can be recycled we’re protecting the natural resources and the environment.

By recycling our cartridges we can avoid excess production of the harmful emissions produced by so many of our manufacturing and engineering processes. If we all acted

a little more responsibly, the planet would be in a much healthier state. By not being as aware as we should be, we’re contributing to its slow destruction.

Energy

Of course, it stands to reason that any manufacturing process will use energy to power the machinery and the plants that create the end product.

Here’s the kicker though: the manufacture of a new cartridge uses 80% more energy than producing a cartridge using recycled components.

Our energy resources are incredibly valuable. Even though we’re finding better ways to create the energy to power our cars, homes, offices and businesses, it still costs to move it around; it still creates waste in areas we need to control.

The more we all play our part, the better it will be for the planet.

What can you do to help?

Recycle.

It’s as simple as that.

The more inkjet and toner cartridges that are recycled the less impact it has on the planet’s natural resources, energy and the environment.

The less harmful materials we dispose of by unhealthy means, the better. The less energy we waste doing it, well, it’s just a win-win, isn’t it?
